Visiting First Baptist Church

Are you thinkiFBC Signng of joining us at The First Baptist Church.  Please do!   Whether you have visited our services before, or you are just interested in what First Baptist Church is all about, this page is for you!  For over Two Hundred and Twenty-eight years, First Baptist has been a lighthouse in this community, sharing Christ’s love and message of hope to all who will listen.  We are a Fellowship of Believers that Care.

We would love to meet you!  We are located at the corner of Main Street and Dyer Street, two blocks west of the downtown area. If you need directions, please click here.

If you have arrived in time for Sunday School at 9:45 a.m., our friendly greeters will meet you at the door and help direct you to the appropriate class. There are Sunday School classes available for all ages.

Morning Worship begins at 11:00 AM.

We have created some pages to address some common areas of concern that people sometimes have – accessibility, communion, and children.

Feel free to read one or all of these pages, but we can sum it up briefly – YOU are welcome here. Come as you are.

Where should I park?

Parking is available on the streets around the church as well as in the parking lot at the Southeast corner of Main and Dyer.  The parking spaces closest to the building are reserved for handicapped parking tags and for those with limited mobility.  A wheelchair ramp to the Educational Build and the Sanctuary is available off of Colonial Avenue.

Who is welcome to worship here?

Everyone is welcome to worship here.

Is there a dress code?

There is no strict dress code for our services! We want you to be comfortable and ready to concentrate on the message of God’s Word.   Many in attendance will be wearing their “Sunday best” – the men in dress shirts and dress slacks, typically with a tie, and the women in appropriate dresses.

What are the services like?
After a warm welcome, our choir will open the service with an exciting and uplifting chorus, of contemporary music.     The congregation will join in, singing several of the great praise and worship hymns found in the hymnal throughout the service.   There is a Children’s Message, Morning Prayer, Scripture Reading and the Message.  Check our homepage for more information.

How do I join First Baptist Church?

1.  By profession of faith and baptism.  By receiving Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and Lord and following Him in Baptism by immersion, we would welcome you at First Baptist.

2.  By transfer of letter.  As a Professing Christian and having been baptized by immersion, we would welcome you into our membership and happily take care of appropriate details for transferring of your membership.  If you were a member of a church that does not practice Baptism by Immersion, we will gladly accept you as a practicing Christian and baptize you by immersion.

3.  By Statement.  In the event church membership records are not available, or if you were once a Baptist church member we will accept you upon your statement.
